Kaara L. Koplowitz

Kaara holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Central Connecticut State University and a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Southern New Hampshire University. Prior to her work with GEAR UP, Kaara has acted in the roles of Student Services Manager, Summer Programs and Special Projects Manager, and Director of College and Career Office Operations. Kaara is passionate about providing opportunities and resources to students and families as they navigate their way through high school and beyond.

Fun fact: Kaara tries to read at least 100 books a year

Kaleigh received her undergraduate degree from the University of New Haven and her Master of Education in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Salem State University. Education access is something she is passionate about, which is what drew her to work for Gear Up.

Fun fact: Kaleigh graduated from Maloney High School, where she is now the Site Coordinator!

Miss Westfall earned her Bachelor's Degree from CCSU in 2015, becoming the first in her family to navigate the college process and graduate. She is excited to provide GEAR UP services to students because early awareness and preparation are crucial to students pursuing post-secondary education, especially first-generation students. Miss Westfall has been a tap dancer for 28 years, when she is not at Platt she can be found teaching dance lessons!

Yavier Carbo-Colon

Yavier Carbo-Colon earned his bachelor's in sports management from St. John's University and is now getting his master's in finance at Central Connecticut State University. He is deeply invested in his student, unwaveringly committed to nurturing their potential so they not only succeed in high school but thrive in the future. In addition to his academic achievements, Yavier represented Puerto Rico as a member of the U20 National Lacrosse Team in 2022 and got a chance to compete in the World Lacrosse Games in Limerick, Ireland.
